Marvel’s Iron Fist follows the story of Danny Rand (Finn Jones), an orphaned billionaire who can summon the mystical power of the Iron Fist. The Netflix TV series is loosely based on the comic character of the same name. It is part of the growing Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). All 13 episodes of the TV series were released on March 17, 2017. In July 2017, a second season was announced despite the generally negative reviews the first season received. Other member of the cast include Jessica Henwick (Colleen Wing), Jessica Stroup (Joy Meachum), Tom Pelphrey (Ward Meachum), David Wenham (Harold Meachum), Wai Ching Ho (Madame Gao), Rosario Dawson (Claire Temple) and Barrett Doss (Megan). Actor Toby Nichols played the young Danny Rand. The first season shows Danny surviving the plane crash that killed his parents; he is rescued by monks from the mystical city of K'un-Lun and raised by them. He was presumed dead back in New York along with his parents, only to show up 15 years after to reclaim the company his dad co-owned with Harold Meachum. He is not recognized by his childhood friends Joy and Ward, who have been in charge of the company in the wake of their father’s perceived death. He goes on to prove himself as the child presumed to have died but he also discovers that their company is being used the The Hand to sell heroin. Furthermore, it is revealed that Harold is still alive and that Ward knows about this. Danny reclaims his spot in the company but Ward does not tell him everything about the eventual death of Harold. He also falls in love with Colleen who is a skilled martial arts fighter. The end of the season gives way to another Marvel Netflix series, The Defenders, where he joins Daredevil (Charlie Cox), Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter) and Luke Cage (Mike Colter). They come together in New York to defeat a common enemy, the Hand. The second season of Iron Fist is expected to be released in 2019.
